Kirsten Winthers | Empowering Minds Through Art Therapy
"Use your creativity to tap into your innate power for growth and healing" - Carl Rodgers

About Me
I am an Art Therapist, Child and Family Therapist, and Mental Health Clinician with a Master of Art Therapy from La Trobe University and over 10 years of experience in the community services sector. I am passionate about supporting children, adolescents, and families through evidence-based, trauma-informed interventions. I specialise in designing, facilitating, and delivering successful CBT, DBT, ACT, and MBCT-based art therapy programs for children, young people, and women with children.

I have expertise in conducting functional assessments within art therapy programs and integrating trauma-informed, client-centred, child-led, strength-based, and neuro-affirming approaches to support mental health and neurodevelopmental challenges. I excel in collaborating with families, educators, and multidisciplinary teams to implement capacity-building strategies that enhance emotional regulation, cognitive development, and engagement in meaningful activities.

With a deep passion for the intersection of art therapy, cognitive-behavioural approaches, and neuroscience, I emphasise the transformative power of creative expression in fostering emotional resilience and cognitive growth. My experience spans roles as a Case Worker, Support Worker, and Art Therapist, empowering individuals—particularly youth, women, and children—to navigate challenges such as domestic violence and homelessness.
Why I Chose Art Therapy?
Through my work, I’ve witnessed firsthand how art therapy can transform lives, providing a voice for those who feel unheard. My mission is to help clients access their inner creativity to address life’s challenges, express emotions, and foster resilience.
